  The 10cm Self Inflating Mattress gives you a full 10 cm between your back and the ground, which is the depth that lets you forget the stones and roots underneath. At 195 x 70 cm you have room to stretch out or shift onto your side without rolling off the edge, and the mat still weighs only 1 kg with a load rating up to 150 kg. That thickness is what keeps cold, damp earth from drawing warmth out of you over a long night.

  Fills in about a minute, tops up in a few breaths

  Open the valve and the foam expands, drawing in most of its air in around a minute; add a few breaths by mouth if you want it firmer. That final puff is normal for a self-inflating mat, not a fault. The 40D nylon shell has a TPU coating that resists stones, roots and ground damp, so it copes with a rough pitch, though it is a sleeping mat rather than a groundsheet. When you pack up, it rolls back into its bag in a couple of minutes.
