  Who it suits

  This mat is aimed at campers, festival-goers and airsoft players who want padding between them and cold, uneven ground. At 9cm thick with a built-in neck support, it keeps bony hips and shoulders off stones and roots, and at 1.1kg empty it stays light enough for a bergen or the boot of the car. The 20D nylon and Chun Yafang polyester shell has a water-resistant coating that shrugs off ground damp, though it is a sleeping mat rather than a groundsheet, so pitch it on a dry footprint in heavy wet.

  Honest about the inflating

  Despite the name, you do the inflating here: around 10 foot pumps through the valve and it is ready, no electric pump and no lung-busting required. That takes under a minute once you have the knack. It holds up to 200kg, and you can clip several units together for a wider bed.
