  The 180 degree opening sets it apart from a top-loading sack. You lay it flat and pack it like a case, so nothing gets buried. Three compartments keep clothing, a 17 inch laptop and two pairs of shoes apart, and the outer pockets take small items without opening the main body.

  Straps, zips and how to spare them

  Run the compression straps before you move. Drawn tight they hold the shape of the load and cover the zip openings, so the zips stop carrying weight that was never theirs. Clip the chest and waist straps to lean the load on your torso instead of your shoulders, and keep the densest items against the padded back panel.
