  What the laptop sleeve changes

  Most packs this size stop at a big main compartment and a lid. The padded sleeve here takes a 16 inch machine and holds it flat against the back panel, which is where you want the densest item sitting anyway. That makes the 70 litres usable for a fortnight away with work in the bag, not only for camp kit.

  Loading it without stressing the straps

  Seventy litres is enough room to load well past what a shoulder strap enjoys. The top of the strap, where it meets the body of the pack, is the first place the stitching complains, so keep the heavy items high and hard against the ventilated panel and let bulky, light kit fill the bottom. If a zip needs a shove to close, take something out instead of forcing it.
