  1.85 kg before you pack it

  For 75 litres that is a modest figure, and the number to hold in your head when you plan a load. The reinforced nylon and the buckles are what you pay that weight for. Open it out to 80 litres, fill it with dense kit, and you carry more than most people want over 10 kilometres. Treat the extra volume as room for bulk.

  The belt does the work

  A padded waist belt means the weight can sit on the top of your hips, with the shoulder straps only steadying it. Set the belt first, then draw the straps in. Dense items go high and close to your spine, the sleeping bag stays in its base compartment, and no zip gets forced on an over-packed section. The supplied cover handles a downpour, a liner the rest.
