  Where the water comes from

  Eight litres is the vest itself. The sleeve inside takes a bladder and routes the hose over your shoulder, but none is listed as supplied and no capacity is quoted, so bring your own and check it fits. The front pockets hold 500 ml flasks you can reach without stopping.

  Dialling it in

  Eight sternum positions and a quick-release waist strap suit a narrow chest or a broad one, and the load rides best packed low. Leaking bladders are usually let down by the cap or the tube joint, so close it square and dry it open after every run.
