  Three ways to carry, one of them short

  Handles for the boot of a car, a shoulder strap for a platform, backpack straps when you need both hands on a staircase. The straps are a useful extra rather than a walking system: no frame, no hip belt, so the whole 35 litres hangs from your shoulders. Twenty minutes is fine, an afternoon on a trail is not.

  Boots in a compartment of their own

  The shoe compartment is closed off from the main volume, so mud and wet leather stay away from folded clothing. It works just as well for a wash kit. Outside, the MOLLE webbing takes a small pouch for what you reach for often, while the dense items stay inside, close to your back.
