It loads from the top

A top loader rewards packing in reverse: what you need first goes in last. The fold-over buckle closes across the opening rather than along a seam, which sheds a shower better than an exposed zip, but reaching the bottom empties most of the bag. If you want the middle without unpacking, choose a side-zipped bag.

What the canvas does

Canvas takes abrasion, so the bag can be set down on gravel without much thought. Treat it as water-resistant: no rating is published, and a dry bag inside is what keeps a sleeping bag dry.
