  What 55 litres holds

  Fifty-five litres is a long weekend rather than a night away: three or four days of clothing, a pair of boots, a towel and a jacket, with the opening still closing easily. Packed with soft kit it lifts comfortably in one hand. Packed with tools, you will reach for the shoulder strap.

  Breathable is not water-resistant

  The fabric is chosen to vent, which matters when wet training gear goes in at six and comes out at nine. Venting works both ways: air moves through the weave, and so does rain. No rating is published, so keep the bag inside the boot rather than on a roof rack, and line it for anything sensitive.
