    • RO membrane (reverse osmosis): takes viruses, heavy metals and other contaminants out of the water.
    • Sand pre-filter: catches silt and algae before the water reaches the main stages.
    • UF membrane (ultrafiltration): removes bacteria and fine particles while keeping the flow rate up.
    • Shaped for the hand: stainless steel handle that holds up to repeated pumping.
    • Carry bag: compact, so it goes in the pack for time outdoors.

Survival gear: a pump filter for time on the hill

This survival gear is a replacement water filter for outdoor camping, built as a straw and pump purifier for emergency use. Filtration runs to 0.01 micron, which filters out viruses and micro-organisms at more than 99.99%. The carbon fibre and KDF composite inside improves the taste and absorbs heavy metals. The body is plastic with stainless steel tubing, which is what holds the assembly together under pump pressure. The shape means less work per stroke. It runs four filtration stages, so what comes out of the outlet can be drunk straight away. It is small, light and high-output for its size, and it works for camping, hillwalking and emergency use.

Survival accessory: how it is put together

The main assembly is a sand filter head, a three-stage UF ultrafiltration composite filter element, an ABS housing and a stainless steel handle bar. Inlet and outlet are pagoda fittings. The pipe connection holds firm and does not slip off under pressure. Output is 1.5 to 2 litres per minute at 25 to 30 pump strokes per minute, so filling a couple of bottles takes a minute of work rather than ten.
