  Built for height

  Most hammocks stop around 260 cm, which is where tall sleepers fold into a banana and feel a ridge under the spine. At 290 cm end to end there is room to lie across the fabric at an angle rather than straight along the middle, and that angle is what lets the surface flatten out under your shoulders and hips. The 300 kg rating covers you plus a loaded pack, or two people sitting out the evening.

  Plan for the cold and the rain

  The underside of any hammock is the cold part. Your sleeping bag is crushed flat under your weight and stops insulating there, so put a mat inside or an underquilt below. The polyester net handles insects, but nothing on it stops water, so hang a tarp above before you commit to a wet night.
