  Double parachute hammock: honest sizing for two

  Most doubles are rated on weight, not on sleeping room, so two adults roll into the middle and nobody sleeps. The straight version: at 140 cm wide with a 300 kg rating, two of you can sit out an evening in it, and for a full night it gives one person a wide diagonal lay with no shoulder squeeze. The parachute nylon dries fast after a damp morning and takes being packed away wet better than cotton.

  What you get, and what to add

  The hammock and its stuff sack. Nylon on its own does not stop rain and does nothing for the cold underneath you, so run a tarp overhead and a mat or underblanket below for UK nights out. Hang it off two solid trunks, keep the straps at about 30 degrees, and you are set in a couple of minutes.
