  Light, strong and sealed off from insects

  At 660g the whole thing packs down small enough to forget in your rucksack, yet the 210T parachute nylon is breathable and tear-resistant, and it carries a maximum load of 300kg. The thick mosquito net is the standout: two 4-metre ropes hold it up and away from your face all night, so it does not sag onto you the way cheap nets do. Two aluminium carabiners and two nylon straps, 2m long and 2.5cm wide, wrap straight around trees for a quick, secure hang, and an internal pocket keeps your phone, keys or wallet within reach.

  Deal with the cold underneath

  One straight fact about hammocks: you lose heat downwards, because your weight presses the insulation flat under your back, so it runs colder below than a tent floor. Add a sleeping mat inside or an underquilt beneath and you sleep warm rather than waking cold. We say it plainly instead of letting you find out. Give the net and ropes one practice run and setup is quick.
