  Double-bag anything electronic

  The laptop compartment is padded, not sealed, and no bag of this type should be trusted alone with a screen or a phone. Slide the laptop into a sealed sleeve first, then into the pack. Under sustained rain the nylon holds up and the stitch lines are what let water through, a hole per needle pass.

  From 20 to 35 litres

  At the low end it is a laptop, a jacket and lunch. Filled out it takes two days of clothes and a wash kit. Keep the weight high and close to your spine, and take the accessory pouch off when you want the pack narrow.
