  3 cm of foam that keeps the ground at bay

  The Hiking Self Inflating Mattress sets 3 cm of open-cell foam beneath a coated velour top across a 192 x 66 cm surface. That layer lifts you off stones and cold earth so the ground stops pulling warmth out of you overnight. The coating resists damp and morning dew rather than soaking it up, which counts when you pitch on wet grass or wake to a heavy dew. At 1.5 kg it stays a fair weight for a hiking pack.

  Built to hold air, honest about topping up

  The seams are high-frequency welded to cut down the joins where cheap mats let air escape. Open the valve and the foam expands, drawing in most of its air on its own; add a few breaths by mouth if you want it firmer. That final top-up is normal for a self-inflating mat. The velour surface grips your sleeping bag so you are not sliding on a slope, and the integrated clip system links two mattresses into a double. It is a mat with a water-resistant coating, not a groundsheet.
