  Roomy, netted and off the ground

  This hammock opens to a 290 x 140cm bed, which is generous enough for a taller sleeper to lie diagonally with kit alongside. The built-in mesh canopy wraps 360 degrees around you, so mosquitoes and midges stay outside while you rest above the wet, crawling ground. The 210T ripstop nylon stands up to rough handling and repeated setups, holds a 300kg limit, and still packs down to 820g so it slips into a pack without a fuss.

  The honest bit about warmth

  A hammock is colder underneath than the ground, and it is better you hear it here than at 3am. Your weight flattens the insulation below you, so heat escapes downward unless you add a layer. A sleeping mat inside the hammock or an underquilt slung beneath sorts it out. The net and straps take a little practice on the first pitch, so try it once in the garden and after that it goes up in a couple of minutes.
