Hammock and rainfly, packed light

This set puts a 290 by 140cm hammock in 210T nylon under a PU-coated waterproof tarp, with a mosquito net for the insects, at 820g for the hammock and 300g for the tarp. It holds up to 200kg, so it suits one in comfort or a close two, and the whole kit tucks into a rucksack. The tarp measures 230 by 140cm, which is shorter than the hammock, so pitch it carefully over your torso and head and keep the ends of the hang out of the wind-driven rain. The accessories you need to set it up are in the pack.

On rain and cold, straight

The rainfly is smaller than the hammock, so it covers the middle rather than every inch, plan your pitch around that. And a hammock is colder underneath than the ground, because your weight presses the insulation flat below you. Slide a mat inside or hang an underquilt and you stay warm. Rig it once at home so the tarp and net go up quickly on site.
