  Why the width matters

  Shoulder squeeze and the ridge down your back both come from lying straight along the middle. At 140 cm across you can lie corner to corner instead, and the fabric flattens out under your body. The 260 cm of length is what gives that diagonal room to work.

  The cold arrives from below

  Your sleeping bag is crushed flat under your weight, so the fill underneath stops holding heat. Put a mat inside the hammock or an underquilt beneath it. Open nylon is not a shelter either, so hang a tarp overhead if rain is forecast.
