  Twelve centimetres and 200 kg

  Twelve centimetres of air is enough depth that a heavier build or a side sleeper does not bottom out on stony ground, and the 200 kg load rating is stated for the mattress rather than implied. The surface is PVC joined by high-frequency welding rather than glue, which is what lets the seams take abrasion.

  How this one inflates

  The pump is part of the mattress and runs off your leg, so there is nothing extra to pack. A second valve accepts an external pump if you prefer, and opens fully for deflation. Two non-return valves and a purge system hold the air, though nothing inflatable is immune to a thorn, so clear sharp debris before you lay it down.
