  Bug-free nights, off the ground

  This camping hammock hangs between two trees and lifts you off the damp, insect-crawling floor. The full mosquito net covers the whole hammock, so midges, mosquitoes and ticks stay on the outside while you rest. At 240 by 160cm there is proper room to lie across on the diagonal rather than folded like a banana, and the nylon holds a rated 300kg.   Two honest things to plan for

  First, there is no rain tarp in this kit, so if the sky looks unsettled, pitch a separate tarp over the top before you turn in. Second, a hammock always feels colder underneath than a tent on the ground, because your weight presses the insulation flat beneath you. Slide a sleeping mat inside or hang an underquilt below and that cold is gone. Rig it once in the garden to get the straps and net sitting right, and the real thing goes up in minutes.
