  Sleep off the wet ground, bug-free

  Getting off the floor is the whole point. You hang between two anchor points, the ground stays below you, and the integrated mesh keeps midges and mosquitoes on the outside where they belong. In swing or ground-tent mode you get a second and third use out of the same kit, which earns its place in a pack that has to stay light, across a 270 x 140cm sleeping area with a 200kg limit. The 7075 aluminium bars give the frame an anti-tip stability that a bare hang does not.

  Beat the cold butt

  Here is the honest part most listings skip. A hammock is colder underneath than the ground, because your body weight squashes the insulation flat beneath you. Add a sleeping mat inside or an underquilt below and you sleep warm; skip it and you wake cold at 3am. The first pitch takes a little practice too, so set it up once in the garden before your trip and it goes up in minutes after that.
