  Carrying the full 55 litres

  A pack loaded to the top of its range gets heavy, and it gives way in the same three places: the belt anchor, the top of the shoulder straps, and a zip pulled over one thing too many. Load the dense weight high and against your back, set the belt on the top of your hips, and leave a pocket half empty rather than straining a slider.

  What the lining will not do

  Oxford over a lining holds steady rain off the contents. Seams and zips are not sealed, so a sleeping bag belongs inside a dry bag. No raised, ventilated frame is described, so the panel sits close and your back warms on a climb.
