  What the harness actually gives you

  The back panel is ventilated rather than pressed flat against your spine, which is unusual at this size and pays off on a climb. The waist straps detach, and the specification stops short of calling them a padded load bearing belt, so your shoulders take most of the weight. Keep dense items high and close to your back, and never force a zip on an overfilled compartment.

  Rain and range

  The treatment sheds drizzle and puddle splash. The zips are open and nothing is sealed, so line the main compartment once rain settles in. At 20 to 35 litres you own a day pack that stretches, not an expedition load.
